Taylor Swift Celebrates 10 Years of 1989 with Fans on the Eras Tour

On Sunday, October 27, Taylor Swift marked the 10-year anniversary of her beloved album 1989 with a heartfelt celebration during her Eras Tour stop at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans. The 14-time Grammy winner, who won Album of the Year for 1989 at the 2016 Grammys, used the milestone to thank fans for making the album a career-defining moment in her life.

“1989 is 10 years old today — a decade of the 1989 album,” Swift said during the concert’s “surprise songs” segment. “God, I appreciate you so much for what you turned that album into. I’m always going to be so proud of it.” In honor of the occasion, she performed a mashup of 1989 tracks “How You Get the Girl” and “Clean” for an enthusiastic crowd of more than 65,000 fans.

Swift’s love letter to 1989 and her fans comes just a year after re-releasing 1989 (Taylor’s Version), which she debuted on October 27, 2023. The re-recorded album features all 16 original tracks plus five “From the Vault” songs, including “Is It Over Now?” which has since become a Billboard Hot 100 hit. Swift has spoken passionately about reclaiming her music in this process, telling fans, “I was born in 1989, reinvented for the first time in 2014, and a part of me was reclaimed in 2023.”

Swift first announced the re-release of 1989 at her Eras Tour Los Angeles show in August 2023, sharing her journey of reclaiming her work and creating a stronger connection with her audience. The 1989 section of her tour is one of the most vibrant, featuring iconic songs like “Style,” “Blank Space,” “Shake It Off,” “Wildest Dreams,” and “Bad Blood.” Just a day before her anniversary mashup, Swift surprised fans with a duet mashup of “Is It Over Now?” alongside Sabrina Carpenter.

Known for her resilience and commitment to empowering others, Swift made headlines in 2016 with her Album of the Year Grammy acceptance speech, inspiring fans to stay focused on their passions despite obstacles. “If you just focus on the work and you don’t let those people sidetrack you…when you get where you’re going, you will know it was you and the people who love you who put you there,” she said.

With 12 more stops remaining on her record-breaking Eras Tour, including Indianapolis, Toronto, and Vancouver, Swift’s 1989 tribute has become a highlight in a career-defining tour celebrating all eras of her artistry.
