On October 25th, Avenged Sevenfold brought a unique, Halloween-spirited performance to an intimate crowd of dedicated fans at The Observatory in Santa Ana, California. The exclusive event was reserved for Deathbats Club members, who were treated to a setlist packed with deep cuts from A7X’s early days, focusing on Waking the Fallen (2003) and City of Evil (2005), both rarely performed albums in their recent live shows.
Highlights of the Show and Setlist Surprises
Rare Setlist Choices: Songs like “Remenissions,” last performed in 2016, and “Desecrate Through Reverence,” which hadn’t seen a live show since 2004, made their way into the setlist, thrilling longtime fans. Tracks like “M.I.A.,” “Chapter Four,” and “Burn It Down” also returned after long absences, making for a nostalgic evening.
Halloween Vibes: Frontman M. Shadows donned a skeleton jumpsuit and skull makeup, while Synyster Gates revived his iconic City of Evil-era fedora and guyliner look, adding to the Halloween atmosphere.
Fan Energy: The crowd got into the Halloween spirit with some fans dressed up in costumes, including two moshing Pikachus. Fans were treated to close-up views of Synyster Gates and Zacky Vengeance’s powerful guitar solos, particularly on tracks like “Beast and the Harlot” and “Second Heartbeat.”
A Tradition of Misfits Covers
Adding to their Halloween celebrations, Avenged Sevenfold recently released a cover of the Misfits’ “Skulls,” following their tradition of paying homage to the horror-punk band with past renditions of “Last Caress,” “Hybrid Moments,” and “Astro Zombies.”
