Seether Frontman Shaun Morgan Reflects on New Album and Band’s 25th Anniversary

For Seether’s Shaun Morgan, the release of their new album The Surface Seems So Far on September 20 is more thrilling than celebrating the band’s 25th anniversary. Morgan, along with longtime bassist Dale Stewart, has seen the band evolve since forming in South Africa. With nine studio albums and 26 top 10 singles, Seether continues to resonate with their fans, including their latest No. 1 hit “Judas Mind.”

Reflecting on the milestone, Morgan says, “Sometimes it feels like 25 minutes, sometimes like 250 years.” While acknowledging his growing aches and pains, he feels proud to still be performing with such enthusiasm and a loyal fanbase. Despite the challenges of the music industry, Seether has persevered through changing trends, remaining a staple in rock music.

Seether’s latest album, written during the pandemic, explores darker emotions, including existential struggles and self-doubt. Morgan reveals that during the pandemic, he often wondered, “Is this all there is?” and even considered quitting. These personal battles are evident throughout The Surface Seems So Far, which features powerful tracks like “Try to Heal,” “Same Mistakes,” and “Illusion.”

With upcoming tour dates and a fresh album, Seether is eager to reconnect with fans on the road. “We’re ready to get back out there,” says Morgan, proving that after 25 years, Seether is still going strong.
