Alicia Silverstone sparked concern among fans after she posted a TikTok video where she sampled an unidentified fruit she found growing on the streets of England—later identified by commenters as potentially toxic.
In the video, the 47-year-old Clueless star shared her discovery of a small, bright orange fruit with a seed-filled center. “I found something I can’t figure out, and I need your help,” Silverstone said, showing off the fruit before taking a bite.
Initially unsure if it was a type of tomato, she quickly dismissed the idea. “It’s definitely not,” she remarked, panning the camera to the plant growing behind a fence. She then took another bite, expressing doubts about whether it was safe to eat. “If I bite it—I don’t think you’re supposed to eat this. But it’s almost like a pepper. Does anyone know what this is?” she asked her followers.
Commenters were quick to identify the fruit as a Jerusalem cherry, which the Northern New England Poison Center warns is harmful to ingest. Even small amounts can cause nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea, while larger quantities may lead to drowsiness, hallucinations, or heart rate issues due to its toxic alkaloid content.
Since posting the video on August 19, Silverstone has not provided any updates, prompting worried fans to flood the comments with concerns, asking, “Is Alicia okay? We need an update!”
