Rod Stewart, the legendary rock star, may be approaching his 80th birthday in January, but his zest for life remains undiminished. With a 13-year Las Vegas residency concluding in August, Stewart reflects on living life to the fullest, acknowledging that while his days may be numbered, he’s determined to make the most of them.
“I’m aware my days are numbered, but I’ve got no fear,” Stewart told the US Sun. “We have all got to pass on at some point, so we are all in the same basket.” Despite the inevitable passage of time, Stewart plans to enjoy every moment, aiming for at least another 15 years of fun and excitement.
Stewart’s lifestyle has evolved since his wild days in the ’70s and ’80s. “I’m not like I was in the ’70s and ’80s and I can’t stay up all night, get drunk and go mad and still have a voice just like that,” he said. Now, he prioritizes his health and voice, though he still knows how to have a good time after shows.
Having faced battles with prostate and thyroid cancer, Stewart is more health-conscious than ever. He remains active, planning to build a running track at his UK home and even considering breaking a world record for his age group. “I don’t see any possibility of slowing down anytime soon,” Stewart told HELLO! magazine. “And as I get older, I only really want to do things that give me great pleasure.”
Stewart’s wife, Penny Lancaster, shares his sentiment. “He loves what he does so much and will never retire,” she said. “He’s a workaholic and constantly on the move.” Stewart’s dedication to his fitness regime, working out three or four times a week, even on tour, keeps him energized.
Lancaster believes family plays a crucial role in Stewart’s vitality. “I think it’s family,” she said. “Especially the younger generation. They give him strength and drive.” Stewart, a father of eight, draws immense joy and motivation from his children and grandchildren.
As Stewart continues to embrace life with the enthusiasm of a man half his age, his enduring spirit and love for his craft serve as an inspiration to fans worldwide.
