When Halsey released her heartfelt new track “The End” on Tuesday (June 4), she accompanied it with a poignant message on Instagram: “long story short, I’m lucky to be alive.” The following day, the Grammy-nominated artist provided more insight into this statement, revealing she has been diagnosed with Lupus and a rare T-cell disorder.
In a detailed Instagram post on Wednesday (June 5), Halsey expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support shown for her new song. She shared the challenging news of her health diagnoses, writing, “In 2022, I was first diagnosed with Lupus SLE and then a rare T-cell lymphoproliferative disorder. Both of which are currently being managed or in remission; and both of which I will likely have for the duration of my life.”
The artist explained that the initial period following her diagnoses was difficult, but with the help of her medical team, she has managed to bring her conditions under control. “After 2 years, I’m feeling better and I’m more grateful than ever to have music to turn to,” Halsey noted. “I can’t wait to get back where I belong: With you all [silver heart emoji] Singing and screaming my heart out.”
Lymphoproliferative disorders (LPD), as described by the National Institutes of Health, are conditions marked by the uncontrolled production of lymphocytes, leading to lymphocytosis, lymphadenopathy, and bone marrow infiltration. These disorders occur primarily in individuals with compromised immune systems. T lymphocytes, a type of white blood cell, are crucial for controlling immune responses and destroying tumor cells.
Halsey has previously been candid about her health challenges, discussing her battles with endometriosis and her 2022 diagnoses of Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, Sjögren’s syndrome, mast cell activation syndrome, and POTS.
Amid these revelations, Halsey also announced the upcoming release of her fifth studio album. “There’s so much I am going to reveal on this record, but you need to know some of the story first,” she wrote in a heartfelt letter to fans posted on her website. “So before the chaos and confetti of big singles and album releases I just need to tell you, my friend, why it all matters this time.”
As Halsey continues to navigate her health journey, she remains committed to her music and her fans, sharing her personal story with courage and honesty.
