Dog Abandoned by Homeowners gets a Happy Ending

The story of an abandoned dog left tethered to a tree by her previous owners ended better than anyone could have imagined. Despite how bleak her future felt when she realized her owners had moved and left her behind, the 10-year-old pit bull pup – now named Molly – is doing better than expected after a young couple who bought the home opted to adopt her.

How the new homeowners found the abandoned dog

As Dogtime.com reports, April Parker and her husband just happened to find the pup abandoned in the backyard during a random check-in at their newly purchased home.

According to The Dodo, the couple learned that the previous homeowners had also abandoned their cat before moving. The cat was left to free roam in the backyard, but Molly had been tethered, so there was nothing else she could do other than sit and wait all alone, without food or water, hoping someone would eventually show up. Thankfully, the Parkers did.

As soon as the pup saw Parker approaching, she quickly got up and walked faster toward the new homeowner with her tail wagging. It was that moment when Parker knew they had take in the abandoned dog. “We are going to [make] her life so good,” Parker shared on TikTok. “She will never be left alone tied to a tree.”

Since rescuing her, Parker said that Molly now follows her and her husband everywhere. Molly also gets along pretty well with Parker’s previous indoor cats. In case you’re wondering, the other abandoned cat eventually warmed up to the Parkers, too.

Why would the previous homeowners abandon their pets?

It’s still unclear why the previous homeowners left Molly and the cat behind. While factors such as financial challenges, lifestyle changes, allergy concerns, and lack of compatibility may prompt one to want to give up on their pets the humane thing to do is to surrender the dog to a shelter or rescue, or make efforts to re-home them, but never abandon them.

It’s a sad truth that every year countless dogs and cats are abandoned by their human companions. Frequently this happens as the result of a move, and in particular, when a person’s new residence doesn’t allow animals. Abandoning dogs and cats is illegal in most states. Nevertheless, many domestic pets are cast-off, either by releasing them into the wild or putting them out on the street. Unfortunately, starvation, and ultimately death, is the fate that typically awaits them.

If you’re in the process of looking for a new home, make sure you find a place that accommodates your pet. And if you want to welcome a dog or cat into your new home, consider adopting one from your local animal shelter.
