According to the National Retail Federation (NRF), a record number of Americans are expected to do something to celebrate Halloween this year. On October 31, almost three-quarters of the country (73%) are expected to either hand out candy, dress in costume, decorate their homes, take their kids trick-or-treating, or head out to a Halloween party. Although the NRF’s survey didn’t specifically ask whether respondents would also participate in Chipotle’s annual Boorito celebration, there’s probably a significant percentage who will be doing that too.
As Food & Wine reports, the fast-casual chain held its first Boorito in 2000, kicking off what has become a yearly occurrence with a burrito-themed costume contest. In the years that followed, anyone who rolled into their local Chipotle in a costume — of any kind — could get a discount on their meal. Boorito is coming back on Tuesday, October 31, but this year, you don’t have to dress up at all in order to get those sweet Boorito benefits.
According to Chipotle, any Chipotle Rewards member who uses the promo code BOORITO when placing a digital order from 3 p.m. to closing time will get their entree for $6. (That may be more convenient, but it’s decidedly less fun.)
Chipotle customers who would like to participate will need to be an existing Chipotle Rewards member or will need to sign up before using the BOORITO code. “Boorito has become a mainstay for Chipotle,” Chris Brandt, Chipotle’s chief brand officer, said in a statement. “This year, our digital offer makes it even easier for fans to fuel their Halloween celebrations with real food.”
Chipotle is also keeping the BOORITO party going even longer this year by extending its operating hours to midnight at 53 Chipotle locations in college towns around America. The company said that it selected those 53 restaurants because they’re located in the college towns that eat the most Chipotle and because “53” represents the number of “real ingredients” that are part of the chain’s permanent menu.
And because it wants to put the “Howl” into Halloween (just go with us, please), the first 100 digital orders placed between 10 p.m. and midnight at each of those 53 restaurants will be served with an exclusive bottle of Tabasco Scorpion Sauce, made with Scorpion peppers, which were once the hottest peppers in the world. This is the super spicy sauce’s Chipotle debut – and it’s only available on Halloween night.
And remember, just because you don’t have to wear a costume doesn’t mean you can’t wear a costume. We’ll be going as the person who just wants Chipotle to bring the smoked brisket back.
