Canadian singer and songwriter Gordon Lightfoot has passed away at the age of 84. He was known for his folk and country music, with hits like “If You Could Read My Mind” and “The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald”.
Lightfoot began his career in the 1960s and continued to perform and record music for over five decades. He was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 1986 and the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2012.
In a statement, Lightfoot’s family said, “It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Gordon Lightfoot. He was our mentor, inspiration, and a rare talent in the world of music.”
