BSR’s HERProject, Gap Inc., P.A.C.E, CARE and Better Work recently came together in order to start a new campaign dubbed, RISE: Reimagining Industry to Support Equality, aiming to accelerate equality for female workers in global garment, footwear and home furnishings supply chains.
Rise aims to support global brands that help to empower women workers in their businesses to make a bigger impact on gender equality. The unified approach will allow for industry to accelerate equality at a faster pace to establish a lasting impact on gender equality. The four founding partners work with 50 of the world’s largest clothing, footwear, and home furnishings brands and have already reached over five million women across the world.
RISE’s workplace initiatives aim to drive women workers’ dignity and equality up in the workplace. Training provided also encourages male co-workers to challenge social norms in the workplace. With training topics ranging from communication and problem solving, general and reproductive health, financial health and security, freedom from sexual harassment and gender-based violence, and women’s advancement and leadership.
Brands, buyers, and suppliers are all capable of being a part of RISE and can invest in a workplace program for their garment supply chain. Currently there are programs in place in Egypt, Pakistan, Cambodia, Vietnam, China, Indonesia, and Bangladesh.
