On Wednesday, February 15th, Selena Gomez revealed in an interview that, “The music I’m doing right now is about real things that I’m walking through. It’s really powerful, strong, very pop, The theme generally is freedom—freedom from relationships, freedom from the darkness.”
She also explained how rather than making upbeat tracks for fans, she rather take her music in a different direction. She added, “If I had my way, I would probably write ballads my whole life, but I want to produce music that will make people smile.”
Selena Gomez hasn’t released a studio album since Rare, which released in January of 2020. At the time the set was atop the Billboard 200, and spent a total of 26 weeks on the all genre chart. A release date for her new music has not yet been announced or confirmed.
