Pantera Has Been Dropped From Two German Festivals

Pantera was just removed from two separate lineups for two major German rock festivals. The Rock and Ring and Rock in the Park organizers announced on Monday, January 23rd, that the metal band will not perform at this summer’s events after they had been announced as performing previously.

Organizers wrote in a Facebook post, “In the last few weeks, we have had many intensive conversations with artists, our partners and you, the festival fans, we have continued to deal with the criticism together and decided to remove the band from the program.”

Pantera’s latest lineup is made-up of original singer Phil Anselmo, longtime bassist Rex Brown, drummer Charlie Benante, and guitarist Zakk Wylde. Organizers didn’t cite a reason for Pantera’s removal. However, it is speculated that it has to do with events that took place back in 2016 when Anselmo was filmed giving a Nazi salute and shouting “white power” during a tribute to late Pantera guitarist Dimebag Darrell. The festivals will be taking place in Nuremburg, the place where many Nazi rallies took place during World War II.
