Morrissey Announced A Label Split

The ex-Smith’s singer, Morrissey revealed he split from his record label this Christmas weekend and also stated that Miley Cyrus wants to be taken off his “hidden” album Bonfire of Teenagers. Both of the announcements were made via Morrissey’s official website on December 23rd via a message that was posted under the title “Roll On 2023” that read, “Morrissey has voluntarily parted company with Maverick/Quest management. Morrissey has also voluntarily withdrawn from any association with Capitol Records (Los Angeles).”

Only a day later, Morrissey shared a post on his website that was titled, “Miley Is a Punk Rocker” along with a picture of the two artists in the studio and read, “Miley Cyrus now wants to be taken off the song ‘I Am Veronica’ for which she volunteered backing vocals almost two years ago, This comes at a time when Morrissey has disassociated himself with Capitol Records (Los Angeles), who control the hidden album Bonfire of Teenagers. Back in October, Morrissey shared a now deleted post that announced Bonfire of Teenagers being released in February of 2023. The album is being recorded with Andrew Watt, and also includes collaborations from Iggy Pop, Red Hot Chili peppers’ Chad Smith and Flea, Josh Klinghoffer, and Jesse Tobias.

Morrissey also revealed that Capitol had licensed the rights to reissue several of his prior albums, including Southpaw Grammar, You Are The Quarry, and Ringleader of the Tormentors. Although the album is stuck in a limbo of sorts, Morrissey has been able to confirm that he had booked studio time for another album called Without Music the World Dies. His last album to be released was, I Am Not a Dog on a Chain, that was released on BMG in 2020. However, he ended up being dropped from that label after a move that he blame don a new executive’s plans for diversity.
