According to ericsson.com, Ericsson is partnering up with Technovation for a global mentorship program with the goal of inspiring girls to be leaders and problem solvers in their lives and their communities through the use of technology. Technology plays a massive role in every society, but access to digital skills that can help to build a more equitable future remains out of reach for many, with women and girls impacted most. Societal equality and more fair economic prosperity is only achievable if women and girls are able to fully engage with the digital economy. Now more than ever, women and girls need to be empowered with technical skills and confidence to take part in a digital future.
One way that they are attempting their goal of empowering girls through tech is through their partnership with Technovation, a global tech education non-profit that helps empower girls to become leaders, creators and problem solvers. Technovation creates teams of up to five members, who identify as female, trans, nonbinary or gender nonconforming and asks them to find a problem in their community and learn how to create a mobile app or A.I solution to solve the issue.
Ericsson employees volunteer to support Technovation, as mentors to teams of girls all over the world, with the aim to equip them with digital skills and technological prowess. The mentors show the girls how to solve real world problems using technology, teaching them about programming, app development, and artificial intelligence.
Due to Technovation’s mentorship program , Ericsson is helping young women discover the ecitement of technology and how they can help contribute to innovation. With much of our global future relying on technology, programs like this one will help to ensure that women can enjoy an equal role in society, and help ensure we have enough appropriately skilled talent.
