According to cbssports.com, the Philadelphia Phillies became the 12th team to clinch a postseason berth on Monday, with their 3-0 win over the Houston Astros. The Phillies haven’t been able to reach the postseason since back in 2011, the final year of a stretch where they appeared in five consecutive playoffs. Despite starting the season poorly under their former general manager Joe Girardi with a 22-29 start before Girardi was fired. Rob Thomson has since steered the Phillies into the right direction with a 65-44 record. Their chances of making it took a major hit after Bryce Harper was unable to play for two months because of an injury.
However, their supporting cast were able to step up in his absence. The Phillies have been struggling along with the Brewers after a rough September where they went 11-14. The month included two separate five game losing streaks where they lost 10 of 13 games from September 15th to September 29th. The National playoff field will feature the Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Mets, Atlanta Braves, St. Louis Cardinals, and San Diego Padres.
