According to sports.yahoo.com, Cooper Rush has had a historic start in Dallas after leading the Cowboys to a 25-10 win over the Washington Commanders on Sunday afternoon, Cooper Rush is now the first quarterback in franchise history to win his first four games as a starter. Dak Prescott fractured his thumb during Dallas’ season opening loss to the Tamp Bay Buccaneers and Cooper Rush has stepped in since. The 28 year old back-up has led the cowboys to three straight wins. Rush went 15 for 27 with 223 yards as well as a pair of touchdowns in the win. Rush’s 55.6 percent completion percentage was actually the worst he has had since taking over as a starter. Rush was quick to credit their defense as well in saying that, “They’re the reason we’re winning … they walk the walk. Quarterback wins, they are what they are. But it’s nice to have a defense like this.”
Rush got his first win as a starter last season against the Minnesota Vikings. Rush is only the sixth quarterback in the last two decades to go undefeated in his first four starts, among Kyle Allen, Patrick Mahomes, Jimmy Garoppolo, Trevor Siemian and Ben Roethlisberger. Rush continued to say that, “It’s been huge. It’s why you play the game, Since you’re a little kid you want to start in the NFL, so being able to do that for the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday afternoons is pretty awesome.”
Prescott underwent surgery on his thumb the same day of his injury last month, and has hinted that he may try to return for next week’s game against the Los Angeles Rams at Sofi Stadium or the following week against the Philadelphia Eagles. Owner Jones said in a statement that, “I can’t give you anything medically, I don’t think anybody knows how he’s going to grip the ball.”
