Canadian Government Attempting To Reduce Barriers In Women’s and Girl’s Sports

According to cbc.ca, the Canadian federal government is giving $2 million to Canadian Women and Sport in an attempt to reduce barriers for women and girls in sports over the course of the next two years. Canadian Women and Sport had previously published a study back in 2016 that found that 41 percent of Canada’s girls between three and 17 don’t participate in sports at all. They also found that 1 in four girls that played a sport before the pandemic planned to not return, which amounts to approximately 350,000 girls total. The funds will primarily be used to bring the cost of entry into sports lower for young girls in hopes of reviving their interest in sports again empowering the future of female sports in Canada.
