Girls Empowered Via Construction

According to burlingtoncountytimes.com, girls are breaking down barriers with the Mentoring Young Women in Construction summer camp through building careers in an industry they only represent ten percent of. MyWic is offering an in person construction camp to provide experience, mentorship, and education in the construction industry. The National Association of Women in Construction is trying to strengthen the success of women in construction. According to their data women only make up 9.9 percent of the construction industry in 2018. In a quote from CEO of a multi-facility management business Rob Almond stated, “There’s no reason why you shouldn’t feel confident that you can have this position regardless of your gender, We were brainstorming over the last few years on how we can, one, get the awareness out there about why trades are very important to our society, but also get more people interested in doing it.” Attendees of the camp learned about carpentry, sheet metal, safety training, electricians, finishing trades, steamfitters, plumbers, and retail construction.
