Free Tween Empowerment For Girls in Southeast Texas

According to panews.com, the TWEEN ESTEEM camp has held a camp for thirty girls ages 9-12 years old from July 30th at 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Medical Center of Southeast Texas. The co-founders, Mistie Layne and Lauren Perez through talking with Judge Joe Guillory and City Councilman Thomas Kinlaw III in order to gain support through Port Arthur and Mid County, that allowed the camp to be free for the girls. Through the camp the girls learned how to “WRITE IT OUT”, which shows how useful of a tool writing can be in order to release anger, express creativity, and gain clarity. A financial literacy portion was taught by Catherine Bell, who taught the girls how to become an entrepreneur, and how to spend their earning son charity, and the importance of re-investing in their own business’. The girls were also given a free make-up kit and shown how to apply age appropriate make-up by a professional Sephora make-up artist, Shelley Robertson. Other activities included, Self-affirmation exercises, social skills sharpening, and plenty of other fun activities, ending the day with a graduation ceremony at 3:30 p.m..
