Angels’ Mike Trout is Playing for Team USA in 2023 World Baseball Classic

According to cbssports.com, the World Baseball Classic is set to return next spring, and Mike Trout has committed to being there. Team USA GM Tony Reagins said that Trout is “going to be our team captain, too,” and according to Trout, “I’m looking forward to playing for our country,”Reagins was also reportedly the GM for the Angels at the time when Tout was drafted in 2009. Trout was placed on the injured list with ribcage inflammation on Monday and will not be taking part in the All-Star Game. This will be the first time that Trout will be attending the World Baseball Classic. The 2023 WBC is going to be the first since the United States last one in 2017, however, rosters won’t be available for months and trout is the first confirmed US player. Other confirmed players worldwide include, Trey Mancini for Italy, Joc Pederson for Israel, Freddie Freeman may play for Canada. The WBC is meant to gain global interest for baseball, and the United States will be in Pool C for the tournament alongside, Canada, Colombia, Mexico, and a fifth team that will be decided in a qualifier event this fall.
