According to USnews.com, last season the Chicago Blackhawks were one of the worst teams in the NHL, and are facing a long process of rebuilding their team, including their coaches. The Blackhawks have announced that they have named Luke Richardson as the 40th coach in franchise history. Richardson, an ex NHL defenseman himself, is taking over a team that is under GM Kyle Davidson that has been struggling. Richardson is quoted in saying, “I like a challenge and I’m ready for it,”. When speaking at his formal introduction in the team store on Wednesday he said, “I just feel that playing experiences, coaching experiences, I’m totally comfortable with developing players, having patience with players,” he stated, “but I think I said right from the start, I am an optimist and I feel like I want to go win every game, and I’m going to approach every game like that.” Richardson played for six different NHL teams over his career, ending it with 35 goals and 166 assists in 1,417 games total. From Ottawa, Ontario Richardson has also been an assistant on the Montreal coaching staff for the last four seasons, and even took over temporarily as coach for six games and helped the Canadiens reach the first Stanley Cup Final since back in 1993.
