The Greater Houston community is mourning and remembering the life and accomplishment of a local Country legend Mickey Gilley. Gilley who was known for his nickname “The Original Urban Cowboy” was found dead at the age of 86 years old. His friends and loved ones held a memorial service this Thursday to remember his incredible life. Gilley’s career began in Houston after he moved to Texas from Louisiana. He was often known for being a very genuine person with his own unique style of Country, with the track “Room Full of Roses” as his first #1 song. Gilley was also known for opening a honky tonk called “Gilley’s” in Pasadena where the club was featured in a film starring John Travolta, Urban Cowboy. Gilley was known for caring about his fans making sure to spend hours with them after every show he performed. His life is a perfect example of a life filled with experiences that make life worth living.
