Walt Disney Studios has just announced the title of Avatar‘s highly-anticipated sequel.
At CinemaCon earlier this week, producer Jon Landau presented both the follow-up film’s title, Avatar: The Way Of Water, as well as a forthcoming teaser trailer that will soon be viewable by the public.
Landau gave insight behind the film’s anticipation, including a re-release of the original Avatar and the new film’s official opening date of December 16, 2022.
“One of the strengths of Jim Cameron’s scripts are always the universal and relatable themes that he weaves into them,” he said of the film’s critically-acclaimed writer and director. “And there’s no more relatable theme down at the center of each of our four sequels than the Sully family, Jake, and Neytiri’s family.”
“Each sequel will play out as a standalone movie. Each story will come to its own conclusion, and each movie will deliver audiences fulfilling emotional resolutions in each and every film,” he continued, sharing more about the storyline fans can expect. “However, when you look at that as a whole, the journey across all four movies will create an even larger, connected, epic saga.”
