Hailey Bieber has shared the story of her recent hospitalization in her own words, posting a video on YouTube titled “telling my story.”
In the personal video, Baldwin proceeds to retell the “scary” moment during breakfast one morning when she felt a “weird sensation” in her right arm. She described her fingertips feeling “numb and weird,” and that when her husband, Justin Bieber, asked if she was okay, she found she “couldn’t speak.”
“The right side of my face started drooping, I couldn’t get a sentence out,” she recalls. “Immediately, I thought I was having a stroke.”
Baldwin stayed in the hospital overnight and underwent a number of tests that ultimately revealed that she had suffered a Transient Ischemic Attack, otherwise known as a mini-stroke. At the time, her doctors attributed the attack to three recent events: Baldwin’s unadvised use of birth control, her recent case of COVID, and sitting on multiple long flights back to back.
When Baldwin later received follow-up testing from UCLA, she was diagnosed with a Grade 5 PFO, a 12-14 millimeter opening in her heart. From this, doctors were able to accurately determine that this was a major reason for the stroke.
Soon after, Baldwin went through a successful surgery to close the PFO and is now on her way back to being in good health.
“The biggest thing I feel is I just feel really relieved that we were able to figure everything out, that we were able to get it closed, that I will be able to move on from this really scary situation and just live my life.”
