Kourtney Kardashian has recently opened up about the difficulty of trying to have a baby with her fiance, Travis Barker, through in vitro fertilization.
In a recent episode of Hulu’s The Kardashians, the eldest Kardashian daughter spoke to her mother, Kris, about the complications she has been facing because of IVF.
“Travis and I want to have a baby and so my doctor took us down this road of doing IVF and it hasn’t been the most amazing experience,” Kourtney explained. “Every single person on social media is always like, ‘Kourtney’s pregnant, Kourtney’s pregnant, Kourtney’s gained so much weight.’ I’m like, it’s so rude to comment on people when you have no idea what they’re actually going through.”
The Poosh founder went on to tell her mother how the medication she was put on has “put [her] into depression,” and that the treatments are having the “complete opposite reaction” for her and Barker.
Kris empathized with her daughter, telling her own difficulties with trying to become pregnant.
“I got pregnant in 1994 and had a miscarriage and my body entirely shut down,” she said. “It stopped making anything. I was moody and depressed and bloated, didn’t feel well. Everything you just described, the exact same thing happened.”
The conversation on the show was eye-opening and relatable for a number of people who are struggling to become pregnant. Kourtney ditched the taboo stereotype of being ashamed to talk about reproductive difficulties and brought the conversation in the spotlight.
In a confessional, Kris added, “Even though Kourtney has three beautiful children, it doesn’t make it hurt any less if you’re trying to have a baby and you’ve been struggling.”
