Selena Gomez has recently taken to social media to shut down body-shamers and haters in a bluntly honest TikTok video where she declares, “B—h, I am perfect the way I am.”
Gomez, who has been a loud and proud advocate for destigmatizing mental illness as well as autoimmune diseases, has never been one to shy away from being true to herself. The actress is openly diagnosed with both Lupus and bipolar disorder.
“So I be trying to stay skinny,” Gomez’s TikTok began. “But I went to Jack in the Box and I got four tacos, three egg rolls, onion rings and a spicy chicken sandwich.”
“But honestly, I don’t care about my weight because people b—h about it anyway,” she continued. “‘You’re too small,’ ‘you’re too big,’ ‘that doesn’t fit.’ ‘Meh meh meh meh.'”
Gomez, who has been in the limelight since she was a teenager, recently shared that her weight has been under scrutiny for as long as she can remember.
“I fluctuate a lot with my weight,” she explained of her Lupus. “It’s the medication I have to take for the rest of my life — it depends on even the month, to be honest. So for me, I really noticed when people started attacking me for that. And in reality, that’s just my truth. I fluctuate. It depends what’s happening in my life.”
The Only Murders in the Building star is determined to promote good through adversity.
“If I’m known for anything,” she recently said about standing up for herself and others like her. “I hope it’s simply just for the way I care about people.”
