After Saturday’s game against the Washington Wizards, LeBron James has now surpassed Karl Malone as the No. 2 player on the NBA’s career scoring list.
While Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is still No. 1 with 38,387 points, James was able to break Malone’s record that had previously stood for 21 years.
Despite the great accomplishment, though, James stays frustrated at a low season for the Los Angeles Lakers, as they ended up losing the 37-year-old’s record-breaking game, 127-119.
“Obviously at some point I’ll be able to look back at this moment, but right now the feeling I have — I can’t separate it,” James said about not being able to appreciate his milestone in the face of a disappointing loss. “We had a great opportunity to pick up some more momentum.”
Last night, though, the Lakers did manage to beat the Cleveland Cavaliers, 131-120.
“I will not allow myself to think about [the record]. I’ve always just played the game the way I’ve been playing it over the years, and these things have just happened organically by just going out and playing the game the right way,” James said of his pure dedication to the game. “Hope to accomplish that at some point in my career, but I won’t think about it too much.”
