To embark on the journey of recording his fourth album with Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators, Slash took the band on the road to Nashville to record where Elvis Presley, Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton, B.B. King, and many other legends created iconic music, at RCA Studios.
There, Slash and the band recorded the 10 songs of 4 in 10 days in the way of classic rock, live in the studio and without many overdubs.
During the recording session, Kennedy and the other band members ended up coming down with COVID. Nothing held Slash back from getting the album done, though, and looks back on the process with fondness.
“Yeah, you know, it was a very memorable experience,” Slash said of making 4. “I mean, the actual session itself was a blast and one of the most fun times I’ve had in the studio in my career, actually. And then, the other aspect of it was very sort of band bonding, as we had to sort of go through this whole COVID thing together while quarantining in Nashville in an Airbnb. But, you know, at the end of the day, the record got done, and no one’s worse for wear.”
While Slash has been captaining the ship of his solo career, while also balancing a myriad of Guns N’ Roses shows, he continues to embrace the comradery of being a band.
“In this band, we started out where it was a solo thing for me, a vehicle for me, but I quickly recognized it as a band, and that’s how the name came together,” he says. “From Apocalyptic Love on, it’s really been more of a group effort. I’m just sort of the ringleader.”
4 is set to arrive this Friday, February 11th.
