Over the pandemic, Elton John curated an album full of collaborations with artists across nearly all genres. The Lockdown Sessions was a completely remote creation, summarizing what could be made through Zoom, at home, and in the midst of a global crisis.
On Tuesday, John hosted a joint Zoom call with all of the collaborators on the album, including Lil Nas X, Stevie Wonder, Dua Lipa, Miley Cyrus, Stevie Nicks, Brandi Carlile, Eddie Vedder, Nicki Minaj, Colin Padalecki, Jimmie Allen, Rina Sawayama, SG Lewis, Charlie Puth, Ed Sheeran, and many more.
“Well, it’s finally launched, can you believe it? It’s been amazing to work with you all,” the “Your Song” singer said once everyone got settled.
Many of the artists shared many warm holiday wishes, as well as their thanks to John for bringing them along for the ride.
“The last thing I expected to do during lockdown was make an album. But, as the pandemic went on, one-off projects kept cropping up,” John wrote on Instagram at the time. “I’ve ended with a selection of really interesting and diverse stuff that was completely different to anything I’m known for, stuff that took me out of my comfort zone into completely new territory.”
