Starbucks and Amazon join forces to launch a new Café Concept in NYC

Two of the best-known brands on the planet are teaming up. Starbucks has just announced that it has partnered with Amazon to create a new cafe experience in New York City catering to customers in a rush—or, conversely, those who are looking for a state-of-the art work space to hunker down in. These new “Starbucks Pickup” cafes utilize both the “order ahead” feature on the Starbucks app and Amazon Go’s “Just Walk Out” capability to make payment easier than ever.

The full menu of Starbucks beverages and bakery items will be available in stores for purchase, as well as a selection of other food and beverages in the Amazon Go market on location. Some options include Amazon’s salads, protein bars, hot sandwiches, sushi, and even food from local NYC vendors like Ess-a-Bagel and Magnolia Bakery.

Upon entering the cafe, customers can see their order status on an overhead board if they’ve ordered a beverage ahead of time. Then, they’ll use the “In-Store Code” in the Amazon Shopping app, Amazon One, or a credit card to enter into the marketplace and lounge. From there, the Amazon Just Walk Out technology will pick up any items you grab from the market and charge it to your Amazon account—no scrambling for cash or checking out at the counter necessary.

And while these locations sound ideal for a super quick coffee break, the cafes are also designed as workplaces for those looking to meet with friends or get some work done outside the homes they’ve behind inside for so long. The seated area includes power outlets and USB ports so individuals can charge their devices as they work (and sip their beverages of choice, of course).

The first Starbucks Pickup with Amazon Go location is on 59th St between Park Ave and Lexington Ave in Manhattan. By the end of 2022, two more locations are slated to open elsewhere for customers to enjoy, with one opening at The New York Times Building located at 40th Street & 8th Avenue in NYC.
