Earlier this week, beloved actor Tom Hanks revealed to Jimmy Kimmel that he rejected Jeff Bezos’ offer to take a trip into space. Apparently, according to the actor himself, he was offered the trip before William Shatner–but the price to blast off was just too steep.
“And it costs like 28 million bucks or something like that,” Hanks said on the talk show. “I’m doing good Jimmy, I’m doing good. But, I ain’t paying 28 million bucks. You know what, we could simulate the experience of going to space right now. It’s about a 12-minute flight? That about it?”
Although he had to decline Bezos’ invitation, it would have been a timely adventure as Hanks is currently promoting his new Apple TV+ movie Finch, in which he plays an astronaut. Although his character never actually goes to space, the film will tell the story of what it’s like to leave earth and leave behind his furry best friend.
Finch will be premiering on Apple TV+ this Friday, November 5th.
