While he won’t be embarking on a full retirement, David Coverdale has just announced that the upcoming 2022 Whitesnake tour will be his last hoorah on the stage.
“It’s mind-blowing to me that I’m preparing my farewell tour,” Coverdale admitted in an interview. He explained how, while music is his “oxygen,” it was the physical aspect of traveling and performing that got to be too challenging for the 70-year-old rocker.
Coverdale made sure to reassure Whitesnake fans, though, as he was adamant about how the band will still continue to make music: “It’s me, just David Coverdale, who’s retiring from touring at that level.”
Wanting to go out with a bang and not a whisper, Coverdale is confident that a final tour will be the perfect final-bow for his life on stage.
“It’s very important for me to achieve completion,” he said, “and to express my appreciation and gratitude to all the people … who’ve supported me for five decades, 50 years.”
Coverdale’s final tour will take place over the summer of 2022.
