Meghan McCain, the daughter of late Arizona Senator John McCain and former co-host on “The View,” reveals in her upcoming audio memoir, “Bad Republican,” why she chose to leave the talk show after four years of sitting around the table with her fellow co-hosts.
“I would not mention the way I’d been treated on the show,” she reveals about her departure announcement in “Bad Republican,” alluding to how the “deep level of misogyny about the way ‘The View’ is covered and written about in media” gives fuel to the drama behind the scenes. The show, according to McCain, “brings out the worst in people.”
She tells of how she felt unwelcome by co-hosts, highlighting a tense moment on air when Joy told her she was not missed during her three-month maternity leave. After taking a bow from “The View,” though, McCain says she now feels motivated to be the support for pregnant women that she didn’t feel she had.
“I never want to work for anyone again who doesn’t lookout for new mothers,” she declares at the end of the excerpt.
Meghan McCain’s “Bad Republican” audio memoir is set to be available on October 21st.
