Bacon Lovers, Unite! August 20th is Your Day!

That’s too much bacon.

Said no one. Ever.

Bacon is always a shining star — whether as a breakfast side dish, the main attraction or as the savory sprinkling on decadent desserts. It’s delicious when it’s baked, pan-friend, microwaved or grilled. While there are plenty of opportunities to pay homage to this meat eater’s dream food, National Bacon Lover’s Day, celebrated annually on August 20th, is certainly a good excuse to use bacon on, well, everything.

In honor of this foodie-rific holiday, here are some Bacon Fun Facts, courtesy foodimentary.com:

  1. Bacon is one of the oldest processed meats in history. The Chinese began salting pork bellies as early as 1500 B.C.
  2. More than half of all homes (53%) keep bacon on hand at all times
  3. Pregnant women should eat bacon. Choline, which is found in bacon, helps fetal brain development
  4. Each year in the US more than 1.7 billion lbs. of bacon are consumed
  5. Bacon is said to cure hangovers
