The ‘80s have been back for quite a few seasons now, but there seems to be no stopping this trend. Some designers have referenced the decade’s big shoulders and glam hues. But now, the 80’s fingerless gloves have come off because yes, even acid wash is back with a vengeance.
The trend kicked off on the Spring 2019 runways in New York, with Proenza Schouler sending out a bevy of almost whitewashed denim dresses, trousers, and jackets, and culminated in Paris, where Chanel, Dior, and Stella McCartney jumped on board.
But why, for the love of jeans and all that’s holy, why would anyone want to bring this hideous fashion faux pas back? Perhaps it’s a bit of designer ego – they want another crack at getting it right, getting it better, making bike shorts and acid wash denim and waist-high mom jeans a fashion YES instead of a fashion, “NO, please God, make it stop.”
Well, the only ones who can make that call are you, the consumers, deciding to shell over your hard-earned dollars on these new and improved acid wash fashions. So, what’s it going to be, folks? Yay or Nay?
